SAN DIEGO (February 16, 1999) - Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE), the world’s largest franchisor
of retail business, communication and postal service centers, has selected Ogilvy & Mather - Los
Angeles, to be its advertising agency of record, effective immediately. The account is for MBE’s national
advertising activities, currently estimated at $16 million, and was awarded after a five-month agency review
process.
"We were impressed by all the proposals submitted by the four agencies we selected as finalists, not
only because of their demonstration of marketing know-how, but moreover, for their understanding of
the MBE franchise organization," said James Amos, MBE president and chief executive officer. "We
are excited to have the opportunity to work with the caliber of talent at Ogilvy & Mather - Los
Angeles."
The MBE account pertains to national advertising and marketing campaigns conducted by the franchisor’s
global headquarters. International, local and regional activities will continue to be organized and
managed by master licensees and regional advertising cooperatives.
The MBE account also was pitched by the following contenders: DDB Needham, Chicago; J. Walter Thompson,
San Francisco; and Kenneth C. Smith Advertising, La Jolla, Calif. Kenneth C. Smith Advertising was the
five-year incumbent agency of record.
