SAN DIEGO (June 6, 2002) - Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) President and CEO Jim Amos today announced
his retirement from the UPS subsidiary, effective September 30. The announcement came at the
conclusion of an international convention of MBE franchisees in Las Vegas. "Since joining the company six years ago,
I have always seen my role as leading MBE to the next level in its development" said Amos. "That task was clearly accomplished
with last year’s acquisition of MBE by UPS."
Amos has agreed to remain with the company through September, and will be named Chairman
Emeritus. During this time, he will work with UPS to name a successor. A noted author and speaker,
Amos is working on his third book. As immediate past chairman of the International Franchise
Association, he intends to remain active in support of franchising worldwide. Commenting on Amos’ resignation,
UPS Chairman and CEO Mike Eskew said, "I’m confident that I speak not only for UPSers, but MBE employees and
franchisees as well, in extending our sincere gratitude for the dynamic and innovative leadership Jim has
provided MBE during his tenure as CEO. We wish him the best and look forward to the positive impact he will, no doubt,
continue to make on the franchising industry."
